Project overview
The structural engineering scope comprised the design and detailed engineering of the filigree slab (lattice girder slab) floor systems for the expansion of Merwestein Sports Centre in Nieuwegein. The engineering covered the ground, first and second floor levels.

Merwestein Sports Centre is undergoing a major expansion to meet the growing demand for sports and recreational facilities in Nieuwegein. The development includes a new building adjacent to the existing sports complex, featuring an additional sports hall with grandstands, multiple multifunctional spaces and modern indoor swimming facilities.

The project has a strong focus on sustainability. The exterior of the building will be covered with vegetation, while approximately 3,000 solar panels will generate a significant share of the complex’s energy demand. Additional sustainable measures include heat recovery from shower water and the collection, treatment and reuse of rainwater from the roofs.
