Project overview
Frank Schijns Structural Engineering & Design was responsible for the engineering of the filigree slab floor systems for the basement deck above the sprinkler reservoir and approximately 50 loading docks of the distribution centre in Medel, Tiel.
The distribution centre comprises almost 40,000 m² and is located at Business Park Medel, one of the Netherlands’ major logistics locations.
A key engineering challenge was the basement deck, where exceptionally high imposed loads had to be accommodated within a relatively slender floor construction. The design load on this floor was more than 25 times higher than that typically associated with residential use, requiring careful structural analysis and reinforcement design.
